Democracy Matters
Class Reps in CE1 to CM2 visited The Houses of Parliament this week. They had a tour of both The House of Lords and Commons and then took part in a workshop learning all about elections and voting. Democracy is a value we hold dear to us in Britain and France and are keen to share this with the pupils at the Bilingual.
They created manifestos and presented these to their group, then had to vote for their favourite. The winning party’s leader became the Prime Minister for the rest of the session. It was a pleasure to see the children engaged and excited to learn about the traditions and see the impressive, historic building. WE were there for the unveiling of the new statute in Parliament Square of Millicent Fawcett, a suffragette. This trip has been hugely popular and so we have decided to make it an annual visit for the Class Reps.
